Armrest Source for 99 XLT

About a year ago I broke my armrest by putting too much pressure on it.

It's gotten to the point that it has completely busted. The hinge part appears to be OK.

Other than the dealer or a wrecking yard, is there a good source for these?

Thanks

This is a common problem and you would be very lucky to find one in the junkyard or on ebay.

Has anyone used Ford Parts Network LLC?
They list the armrest assembly for $136.59 although I don't see a way to choose the color.

I just went by a local wrecking yard. I can get one there for $138 (and they have one in grey), but I have no choice but to buy the entire console.

I guess I'll have to look around for a while.

Arm Rest Fix

If your arm rest is like my 1998? And looks like a diving board. And it did not break off totally. I got a great repair and upgrade!! It will take you maybe an hour at best!
My best friend - my yellow lab decided she was going to stand on it with all her four legs. Crack!! I had it replaced once under warranty (very, very bad design). I then leaned on the new arm rest reaching over to the passenger side floor to pick something up. Crack!! So I looked at it and decided I could do better than some Engineer at Ford for 2 bucks!!
I got some 1/2 to 3/4 thick plastic by 8 inch I guess (black is nice to match or paint). I made a support that goes under the arm rest at the front. It is as wide at the arm rest's black colored support frame. It is contoured to fit flush up in support bracket. You do not even have drill any holes or anything. I reused the two end screw holes in the underside of the arm rest frame. I replaced the stock self threading Phillips head screws with some nice longer multi use screws cut off to the proper length.
Next I stuck some of that black Velcro tape (the cloth side) on the new support along the bottom which rest on the top center console box. This Velcro cloth allows the new support brace to come in contact with console box door top and to not mare it while transferring the load. It looks very STOCK and can support my 70 pound dog and more I bet. Even if you get a new arm rest I would HIGHLY suggest this UPGRADE and you will never have a problem again. If this is confusing I can take a picture.

If you want to add some pics that would be great or if you want to make a file of the procedure with pics I will upload it and add it to our tech info post with credit to you. This is such a common problem I'm sure a lot of people could use the help.

Sadly, mine has broken completely off. I was leaning over to get something between the passenger door and seat... bang, it cracks.

I'd driven like that for a year or so. Then someone was in my car and went to pull it up to get into the console... there she goes.

So at this point, I just have the hinge sitting in the broken hole so I can continue to rest my arm on it.

It would be nice if you could get some photos of your fix though!

Pictures

SEEverist and Ken00,
I will get you some pictures this weekend. When installed it appears as though it was and should have been there since new. If you are looking in the junk yards I beleive all you need is the black frame so do not worry about color. But take yours apart first to be sure. Also I think that the B4000 used the same stupid set up.

If the arm rest is ok just the hinge broken, Ford sells a repair kit so you don't have to buy the whole assembly.

Cool

Is there any way you could get that part number if possible. You mean the black frame support which the arm rest (colored part) is on top of. Because, when the Ford Dealer replaced mine they got the whole assembly with the grap arm rest installed already.
