Was coming home from vacation today and bought a Southern Rodders Magazine to ocupy me during the flight. I found and article about the many products and services offered buy Fat Mans. I also saw and advertisement listing the availability of a frame them make for the 48-52 F-1. Has anyone got any experience with them? I have an interest in obtaining a frame for my panel truck.
Not many of us here can afford a full frame so I'll offer a somewhat informed opinion. Keep in mind I have never ridden in a Fat Man's equipped vehicle in my life (nor will I knowingly) so take this for what it's worth. The IFS debate is long running here so it interests me. I spent a considerable amount of time looking at the Fat Mans frame at the Supernats. Along with the TCI frame display and the Waltons frame. Plus the No Limit Wide Ride IFS. There are probably price differences between these but I don't know.
1. The Waltons frame appears very well built. I would consider it if I was rich.
2. The TCI looked nice and the MII IFS looks pretty good.
3. The No Limit IFS ($2400) is sharp looking, it's construction screams strength. I'd put an F250 on one and use it like a truck if needed. Can you tell I want one real bad?
4. The Fatman's frame looked decent enough. The IFS however looks like it belongs back under the Pinto it was copied from. Light duty IMO. They should spend a little more money on steel and a little less on advertising. Not a chance I would ever put a Panel on it.
Thanks fenders. I can't say that at this time I'm ready to put any of the frames you discussed under my delivery but when I work on everyone elses toys I feel that when mine is assembled it is to be as good as what is out there and hopefully unique. It is fun to plan, research and dream about it. That part doesn't cost, it's the actual construction that will require the dollars. Thanks for the responce.
Guy at a show in Knoxville had a 38 ch*vy with a full fat man chassis. He's running a big block. When he hammers the throttle. you can see the chassis flex. not only at the engine but along the chassis. He said he has had some damage and had to replace some front in parts, mainly a frame arms.
