Crop Duster mentioned Hagerty's values in his post in Jamey's thread so I had a look, with my truck in mind.
I have a neighbour pestering me - in a good way - to sell my truck to him. I don't really know a fair price. Hagerty values my '66 F100 styleside swb V8 (in #3 condition) at $16,500.
That figure seems high to me; maybe double what I would have guessed. What do you guys think about Hagerty's estimates?
A fair price is one that both the seller and buyer are satisfied with. Hagerty's valuation tool is better than nothing but it seems to over values some vehicles and under value others. When I drive my older vehicles I often get unsolicited offers to buy. My standard reply is "shoot me an offer". Never got an offer worth accepting.
Wow!!! I think I got a great deal on my 66’ 2wd SWB at $5900.
I had an engineer at the plant where I work offer me $12,500 for it, but I turned him down.
I’m still hoping for good news tomorrow with the claims adjuster
I was surprised at the values also. I have my insurance with them and they say they base all those valuations on auctions, private sales and dealer sales. I don't know if they use stated value from people they insure or not. I would think not since you can insure it for what you think it's worth. But if you look at the trend line these trucks have went up in value a bunch since 2018.
I also have Hagerty and have wondered about the values, which seemed inflated to me. I think the value climbing has more to do with it being difficult to afford the really popular muscle cars from the era, so people are looking at other ways to join the hobby and it drives the price up over time. Just go to a cruise night and see what shows up. There are vehicles that I remember seeing growing up that nobody wanted that have suddenly become cool. I think our trucks have become more desirable for that reason. Some trucks like the tri 5 Chevy's and fat fendered f1's have always been desirable, but people look for alternatives so they start to look at other years. I know I never appreciated the 61-66 f100's until I had mine, but there is a lot of sentimental value on it too for me. About once a week I have someone asking me what I would take and the answer is always it's not for sale.

I see a lot of (compared to previous years) big old sedans 2drs and 4drs, old trucks, etc back on the road that even I didn't think much about until last few years but now I think they're cool. My 69 XL (like a Galaxie) fastback, buckets, 429 tj etc never used to get noticed now it does and quite a bit heck even the younger folks check it out and that's good.

Was talking to a guy at a stoplight and he asked what I would sell my 65 F100 custom cab LWB 352 T-18 for. Told him 12-15. He asked if I would walk away from ity for $10,000 cash. As the light turned green I said No Way and popped a clutch and let him smell my sweet exhaust.
I think ChiefDave said it best, for people who work hard for their money if they are satisfied with what their spending and the seller is satisfied with what their asking that’s all I feel that’s important. I don’t feel like there is a dollar figure that would make me give mine up because as many said in this thread some things just aren’t for sale.

Eric.
That is double what I think a #3 is worth. I have my insurance with Hagerty and am happy to over state my value based on their over the top values. However, if I sold I would never get near that but it does keep me covered if hit by someone.
