I have had a water leak at the drivers grab handle/A pillar intermittently for several years, (sun roof and cab lights) in the past year I have had electrical issues, first it was the rear driver side window lost grounding, then I noticed the left rear turn and brake light intermittently not working during wet weather and now the rear driver side door lock quit working on the switch and key fob. Could this water leak be running into a wire harness connection causing all these problems? Where is the connection? Or separate issues?
One thing I noticed when I had my interior out to paint my truck is there is 4 or 5 grounding points in the inside for everything. The use a screw with a star washer and that’s it. I’m thinking possible corrosion from moisture entry giving you a poor ground. I would bet the curcuits your having issues with share one of these grounds
Thanks, I will definitely check the grounding points.
This is on a 2014 F250 lariat, on other sites, I have heard that it was possible broken wires in the drivers door harness to the body control module needs to be replaced.
Update: Pertaining to the rear door lock and window, I found this today Several wires broken, temporarily patched them, the harness is back ordered with no foreseeable date when it will be available for a permanent fix.
I'd cut the wires, put shrink tubing on them, solder the wires together, slide the tubing over it and shrink it. Done and done, slap it back together and forget about it.
More than likely your leak is coming in from around the cab lights. Mine was doing the same thing, caused water to get into the fuse block causing all kinds of intermittent, lighting issues. I had to finally replace the fuse block and use the marine grade sealant around the cab lights to keep the water out.
