Hi, I've been having a weird problem with my F100 1979 , v8 302. When I start it, it warms up and the temperature gage move gradually. But after like a 20 min drive, Temperature sensor can go towards the cold temperature (limite of normalm like the engine would be cooling to much to I am driving). I was wondering what should I look to find the problem, and where do I starts. What's looks like my temp sensor seems really old and full of rust. The truck run actually not too bad at 35-60 mph but, can run awkward a bit when on iddle, like it wanna turn off, and vibrate a lot sometime. thank you for you imput, always like to have some advice. See ya

I would suspect the temperature sensor. Just to confirm it though check the temp of the air coming from the heater vents (Defrost setting is easy to check with your hand). Set to max heat and see what it feels like before it cools off, If the air is warm then cools off time for a new thermostat. If not and it just continues to get warmer replace the temp sensor.
Any thread sealant will suffice if the threads on both items are in good condition. If you have one set of threads that are not in great shape more attention should be paid to sealer selection.
Jet Lubes lead seal used to be the old stand by as it would pressure plate thread surfaces and the carrier would seal any gaps. But it is now out of production due to lead safety concerns. Fortunately, Masters Metallic Compound thread sealant is still in production, it's over 80% lead by weight and does the same thing as jet lubes lead seal did.
So you have that option and some of the other metallic base (Copper Nickle Silver Aluminium) conductive sealants as an option Talons copper seal comes to mind off the top of my head. Just use your head and do not mix incompatible materials (IE copper seal on an aluminium intake).
Ive had great luck with #2 non-setting black sealant for sending units, no leaks thus far. Looks like its similar to what Rich has posted above. Specifically this stuff

Not similar that is more of a gasket maker sealer and is not conductive. But would work with no issues on good threads.
thank you guy for the help, really appreciated. I try the defrost thing, the air stay warms. So I will change de temp sensor, and look for the sealant you suggested. Thanks for all your answers again.
