5.4 3v Tick
Hello, I have a tick on my 06 expedition that's audible with a knocking sound on cold start ups and when the motor is warm just the tick when you rev it up when cold the knock will go away. The tick is audible under light acceleration and heavy. In the higher rpms with the gas pedal about half way down it gets quiter. Was thinking to replace vct solenoids to see if that helps at all. Vehicle has 110k miles, also get horrible gas mileage at 11.5 mpg CONSTANTLY even when on highway.

VCTs are probably not gonna help. I’ve never seen it help at least.
Sounds like the tensioner(s) are bleeding off pressure at low RPMs, but hold enough to keep things tight at higher revs for now.
You’ll be doing a timing job.
