I am in the process of replacing my 02 Excursion. Found an 05 V-10 Limited 4x4 with only 65k miles. Came from Texas. Virtually rust free. Anything different about the 05 from the 02? This one has quad shocks up front, I do not believe this is stock. As I live in the salt capital of America AKA Minnesota, is there a preferred method of keeping the rust at bay, other than winter storage? Any other differences in the 05? Thanks in advance!
There are some parts differences between the rigs, yeah. Quad shocks, though? Definitely not stock and is a red flag to me for other stupidity having been imposed upon the truck. As far as winterizing, some people coat with wool wax, some people use old motor oil. There are other options. I would probably go the used motor oil route, personally.
Depending on what package you're '02 came with, you may or may not notice a difference other than the monochrome paint.
I forget the name of the package, but your '02 may have come with on wheel controls for the HVAC, and radio. It was hit or miss on the '05s again depending on the option package. My '05 Limited came with everything minus the DVD player which MagnoliaTom gave me a few years back after getting his F350 running again.
Come to think of it, the real difference is the color theme inside. The steering wheel and driver portion of the dash will be black and the rest of the interior is a light color compared to Medium Parchment known as Medium Pebble.
Other than that you have the same truck but with a facelift.
If it were me and I just bought a rust free vehicle like that I would be tempted to have the entire underside coated in bediner or something like that. Or invest in the spraying equipment to do something like fluid film once or twice a year. I am also in mn and I have a friend here that sprays his truck once or twice a year with that stuff and swears by it.

That's what I would recommend. I remember when fluid film came about late 2006. It is awesome stuff that prevents rust and don't run.
Ah, Minnesota. The land of many seasons -- Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Winter, Winter....
When I bought my Ex about 10 years ago I found a '00 with 86,000 miles. The front end was a mess but the rest of the truck was sound. If I see the ad similar to the truck you bought I could be tempted to trade.
Congratulations on the Ex! There are so many out there with rust issues that a rust free, low-mileage one seems like finding gold. Keep the rust off it and be easy with the miles and a few years from now it could turn out to be one heck of an investment!
Every couple years I roll under my truck with a few cans of rustoleum. Clean everything off real good and spray away. Over here in PA, we love to salt our roads excessively, then it just rains and the wheels splash everything up into the truck.

Do you mean "Dual shocks" up front? Like two shocks side by side on each side in the front? That would make sense and is a good thing.

There exists no situation for a road going passenger vehicle to necessitate dual shocks. Even moderately built off-road rigs don't need dual shocks. It does not upgrade anything and frankly, is a red flag that other stupid crap has been done to a vehicle.
Good luck with that X. i have 205k now on my 2003 EB
V10 gasser. Only thing i have done was 2 alternators, NJ rusted brake lines, (getting ready to do weeping semi plastic radiator) fuel pump and the regular plugs and COP. i am out to see how many miles i can get on it. My friend who has tow company, was using the V10 for years with 200k plus miles and lots of hours with no issues.
