I’m adding a pmf track bar and I’m going to put the the factory bracket back on as I have a bds drop bracket on now,can I just put the new bar in the old bracket, torque everything down before I put back in the truck.
Torquing the nut is more accurate. When you torque the bolt, your getting the tightening torque, plus the friction torque of the material the bolt passes through.
What are you saying? That gauge says / measures inch pounds..this thread is about foot lbs.. I use inch lbs to torque scope bases, scope rings etc ( small stuff )

In WWII was a group of GIs on leave stopped in at a blacksmith shop. They watched the old blacksmith heating a piece over the flame until red, then lay it on the anvil and give it a hit or two, look at it, reheat and get it red and hit it again. After several repeats, one of the GIs commented that back home in the USA the "people had machines that would make that item within 10 thousandths of an inch time after time". The blacksmith commented "That might be OK back home, but over here we like it to be spot on",
ya thats why quit a few people have made threads of the front end clunking because they didnt get the bolt tight how its suppose to be.
i wouldnt expect a person to spend $1000 on the proper wrench for a one time use but any repair shop worth a grain of salt should have the wrench and tighten it for you.
If you don't have the proper tool, get it as tight as you can and then drive it to a shop, or a friends house that has the right tool, and have it checked.
