I am looking to buy some speakers for my 2001 Supercrew, but am not wanting to go broke. My question is, what direction should I go in. I have been looking at some 6x8 Rockford Fosgates, but also have seen Kenwood, Kicker, and Cerwin Vega. Also, what about Audiobahn? I have seen several great deals on those on the internet. Thanks for all the help and please feel free to give ideas about what I should do with my system. I know that I will be adding a enclosed sub, probably 10in. soon also
Check out Car Audio Forum for a great site about car audio. Do a few searches and put in a couple posts. It's a hugh forum. As far as car audio goes, it tends to pretty much always end up on what you personally like, your personal listening taste. What are you looking for? You like crystal clear sound and perfect reproduction, or do you like a warmer richer tone? Do you want just plain loudness(SPL - sound pressure level) or are you trying or are you trying to maintain perfect sound reproduction(SQ - sound quality).
Here are some personal suggestions of mine. If you're looking for sound quality, check out Infinity speakers. They are ultra clear but lack some midbass(not strong lower frequency output). Check out their Reference line of speakers. They're not as harsh as the Kappa line. If you run a sub, you should get around the problem of midbass lack. Let the sub fill in what the little speakers can't do. A brand that I personally fell in love with is Alpine's Type-R speakers. They provide a full, rich sound while still providing excellent clarity and sound quality. Try to stay with component style speakers for anything you buy, i.e. a seperate woofer and tweeter. They sound better, sometimes a lot better, than their 2-way/3-way counterparts. There are some other brands to look into as well, Focal, CDT, Diamond Audio, JL, etc... There's a lot of great brands out there, overwhelming at times. Try to listen to as much as you can. Find what you like. It should sound very clear and defined yet pleasant to listen to. Spend a lot of time listening to many speakers. Do side by side comparisons of brands. Bring your own CD's. Listen to the songs you normally listen to. Also try several different head units(deck, reciever, whatever you want to call it). Each will sound a little different. Spend a good amount of time and research. You'll be listening to them for a long time after you put them in your truck.
I have kenwood 2-way 6x8"s in my taurus, and I love them. They have an excellent frequency range, and clarity and loudness too. I got them off of crutchfiled for only seventy a pair.
