Question shock absorbers

I'm needing a front end alignment, so its probably a good time to get a set of shocks for the frontend. The rear's are fine, the front's are pretty well shot . Anybody had good results with a particular brand and type? This is more of a driver, not a hotrod. I'd like a nice ride with the ability to take the curves at the recomended speeds.

One of the parts vendors was advertising OEM shocks, NPD is listing gas Gabriels (I think) at what seems like a decent price. And of course theres always NAPA and Pep Boys weekly sales.

What are you running and are you happy? Thanks.

Somebody once told me to put the biggest bore shocks on I could find. I don't really think the $20+ shocks differ much in this respect, so I went with some $20 Gabriels and have no complaints.

FWIW, I like Rancho shocks on my modern vehciles.

I've heard that too Jim, something like "you can't put too big a shock on a Twin-I-Beam." Who was that?

I'm running the Gabriels as well. No issues so far.

spring replacement

I drove my '72 a lot of miles before replacing old shocks with Gabriels. Still would bottom out on a bad bump when 4 wheeling. Pulled the old springs and dropped in a set of progressive springs. Big diff on rough ground. THEN I had it aligned. Next is the rear leafs.

Did you get shocks made for trucks, or cars that are car/truck shocks? Some places are telling me I can get them as cheap as 13-14 dollars, but they sound like car shocks. I think that may be a little to light duty. What type Gabriels are you using?

Rancho 5000

Years ago I got the Rancho 5000 shocks from Sears with labor. I have a 72 2wd F250. They seem to be OK, but I don't drive the truck very hard.

That reminds me, I should check them and maybe have Sears put on a new set.
