Head swapping?

Are the heads from the '01-'03 5.4L engines interchangeable with the pre-01 5.4L heads. I'm asking for a friend who has a '99 Excursion and is curious. I know it would be an expensive 20hp gain but you never know where you might find a deal on a pair. Also it's just kind of a gee-wiz question.

Yes, Just use heads with PI stamped in them. This means Performance Improved.
I think that they are worth 40hp on the 5.4.
I know that the Mustangs got these heads in 99, I'm not sure about the trucks.

Thanks Ixman,
I can't exactly remember when the trucks got them I just know it was either'00 or'01. But didn't the trucks go from 260hp to 280? Sorry I shuld have done a little more homework. Now at least I know not to trust my buddy with my truck next time I leave town.

I know in 2001-2003 they were 260hp 350lb/ft the 04's now have 300hp 365lb/ft with the new 3 valve heads.

I would be careful. I put a '98 engine (from an F150) into a '97 van (E150) due to leaking head gasket problems. (water was everywhere.) The heads had different port opening configurations so that the intake manifolds were not interchangeable. (one was square, the other tear drop shaped) I was going to use the '97 intake to minimize change over of components however it wasn't possible.
