Check the throttle plates , Idle speed control for carbon buildup . Fairly common problem . If the idle speed control is functioning properly , after you clean it the idle should return to normal operation .
you think its carbon?It idles fine in park or neutral but when you put it in gear the idle jumps up to about 1500 rpm fron 650 rpm can i disconnect it its wastes gas i know it helps to start the truck when its cold or i could put a cut out switch on it in the cab please help my wife does not like to drive it

It's true that carbon buildup on the plates is very common.the plates should be a gold/copper color,not black.if they are black and crusty they need to be cleaned,if you disconnect the idle control sol.the truck will probably stall,at least its supposed to.did this problem just start or was it gradule?Did the battery go dead or was it disconnected for any reason? if the battery was changed,you may have to teach the pcm the idle statigy again.also you can self test the pcm to see if there are any codes.hope this helps..
