Defrost Duct Alteration

I got a bunch of extra parts with my 54 when I bought it several years ago. The previous owner had a 56 parts truck. Through the restoration I used which ever parts were in better condition. I had reconditioned the 56 heater a couple years ago, wrapped it up and put in the attic. I was aware the 54 and the 56 heaters were a bit different but it appeared to me at the time that they were interchangeable except for larger diameter defroster duct tubes in 56. After installing the cowl vent a week ago I found that the operating arm blocked the driver's side defrost duct.
Here is how it was adjusted.

Very nice work! The underneath of your dash looks better than the outside areas of my truck!

Is the 56 defrost vent different because the 56 cowl vent arm is different than the 53-55 arms? That's my guess.

Abe I had the same thought when the problem appeared so I went digging and found the second arm in my stash. It is the same. Maybe someone here with a stock 56 and a recirculating heater can show us a picture.
While thinking about a solution, I considered adapting the 54 plenum to the 56 heater. Would have been about the same amount of fabrication.

You used a 56 cowl vent handle. I think if you’d have had the correct handle everything Would have cleared
