Tonight, was driving around a parking lot looking for a parking spot. I passed up a spot, so I stopped, put it into reverse, backed up, stopped, and put it into drive. The engine then died, and I got a 'service engine soon' light. I put it into drive, restarted, and it has been fine every since. I just turned 1000 miles on this truck. Anyone ever seen anything like this? Would the computer store a code for this? It is my understanding it only has a code if the CEL stays on. Is this correct?
You know.. I traded in an 02 explorer because it was in the shop too much. If this starts happening with this truck too, I'm really gonna give it to Ford!
Intermittent problem codes and their causes, which may cause a stall, will eventually be canceled after a number of succesfull restarts if the problem doesn' t repeat. The system is designed with the understanding that there may be momentary glitches that produce noticeable results, but never reappear. Unless it happens again it's probably such an event.
Mainly because of the issues mentioned elsehwere on this board. In fact, if you search for my posts, you can probably find my reasons.
One of the biggest reasons was the fact that there was a loud rattle in the back from the back door. It turns out it was rear ended before I got it.
Other than that, there were annoyances that Ford could never fix. Squeel from the trans in the morning, strange noise from the AC, etc.. I had taken it in for small minor things, and it would take them 5 visits to fix. I was just upset and traded it in.
