So I found five 04 18x8 wheels...4 Lariat and 1 King Ranch. A couple of them have some scratches from storage. I want to get them back to looking good condition...they aren't bad, just particular about my stuff. Realizing there is a clear coat on them...I've read it is a harder clear coat than what's on the body panels...I'm thinking to see if a wet sand and polish may be in order. I already took some Meguiar's cleaner that has a little grit in it I typically use to remove road grime and scuffs on body panels and it helped but need something a little stronger. I've talked to a place that polishes wheels and I think they will remove the clear coat...language gap...which will require a polish every so often. Not really liking this option unless I have a painter re-clear them. If I go this route I'm wondering if the clear coat will stick to a slick, polished, shiny surface. Also probably going to polish out the pockets so there's no silver or tan paint. Has anyone done something like this before?
I also have a set of decent 16" Limited wheels in a similar condition that I may do the same with. Both trucks are white...one with a silver bottom and the other with a tan bottom...so not sure powder coating or painting them would be an option.
