differential vent
How do i check if vent is working? Was pretty grimed over. I clean it up and now the dome top spins. I just replaced pinion seal, i wonder if the vent caused it to leak. Maybe I can blow air in fill hole and see if air comes out, maybe put soap over dome.

IIRC, the vent unscrews from the housing like any brass fitting. You should be able to remove it and clean it and make sure it breathes properly. Later vents were just a fitting with a rubber hose attached that just terminated into open air in the frame rail or crossmember.

The vent on the Dana 41 and early 44’s is a press fit into the housing. On the inside, there is a tang on the casting that keeps oil splash inside. You might be able to sneak a really small bottle brush up in that cavity to dislodged any sludge that is blocking it. Or a good jet of brake cleaner. That will require a thorough cleaning of the chunk to rid any grit that could get into the bearings.
