TREMOR option VS FX4

Is the TREMOR option much more capable than the FX4 option?
I understand the limited slip diff up front advantage, but what else?
You can put more aggressive tires on any Super Duty.
If you aren't going to Rock Crawl with your truck, why select the TREMOR option.
FX4 seems pretty darn good.
My 2011 F250 with FX4 and diesel never got stuck.

Tremor has suspension and tire upgrades for more serious off road use. The Tremor also has many styling features many find appealing.
The FX4’s only real attribute is the downhill assist feature. Otherwise the FX4 is a sticker package. Because the AT tires and skid plates can be ordered as stand alone options on any 4x4. Most have reported that the shocks on the FX4 package are not much of an upgrade.

Depends on what your requirements are.

For me the Tremor is appealing, but no 8’ bed option, which I understand as shorter wheelbase is better for off-road use. However, I wasn’t willing to compromise on bed length for multiple reasons.

For the price though, I’ve already installed a TrueTrac n the front diff which is better than the clutched LSD in the Tremor (clutch LSD’s I’ve never seen recommend for off road use). Winch can be purchased separately and is same cost if you option it on the Tremor (down side is it’s still back ordered from Ford Performance Parts).

Shocks are better on the Tremor, but not by much and most will install aftermarket anyhow.

Larger tires from factory, but for price of aftermarket wheels and same or larger tires you’re close to the Tremor option price.

So in the end if you want other brand shocks, wheels tires and winch you can match the Tremor with a LB, but you’ll still be missing the rock crawl mode and the Tremor sticker.

For many the time saved for shopping and installing all these items is easier to buy the Tremor.

If you want different wheels, tires and shocks and the rock crawl mode isn’t a requirement then it’s worth doing the math to see where your aftermarket cost land vs the Tremor cost out the door...

All personal preference, now if they had a 700hp option like Ram then that’s a different conversation😉

I concur with my esteemed coligue! Mr. Bummer is correct. I'm going in his direction,on mods, come summer. Tru-trac, shocks and 35s. I would skip the fx4 and just add the skid plates.

I'll probably get flamed but whatever.

The Tremor package is almost as dumb as the FX4 package. The Duratracs on the Tremor are hit and miss. A case where they might be good in some terrain, but others will complain about them in snow or sand or whatever the case. The shocks on both packages are lack luster. Even a set of Bilstein 5100s outperform both. The crawl mode doesn't do anything that you couldn't do yourself, and I don't see many people actually trying to rock crawl a 160" wheel base, 60-$80k pick-up anyway. It would make more sense for the Tremor package to be available on an XL regular cab truck, but that isn't the configuration that everyone is mall crawling. The skid plates can be ordered for $100 by themselves. The hill descent control deal can be added for less than $50 for the button and activated in Forscan. The clutched limited slip in the Tremor is not what you would really want offroad, but I can imagine that installing a real locker, an E-locker, or even a True-Trac would have created a bunch of warranty claims from people using it on pavement.

If the part of the Tremor package that you like is the front limited slip and tires, do what killer-bimmer did and buy a truck without the package and add a True-Trac and then toss on some more aggressive tires. Save the $3000 you'll have leftover for fuel.

Haha, no 🔥, but the price option for the FX4 package vs buying and installing it was a $150-$200 delta so it was easier just to check the box. But agree if you have the time and $200 saving is worth it then it’s a great option not to select it, But you don’t get the sticker, which apparently helps in resale 🙄. (Mine was removed before it even left the lot, my youngest daughter was peeling off for me as I finished the paper work&#128514.

For the 683rd time, the FX4 package on the Super Duty trucks does only 4 things for your $400:
  1. It adds specially tuned offroad shocks. These are worthless, just like all factory shocks.
  2. It adds hill descent mode that is a sort of cruise control for steep declines at 12 mph or less. This can be added (DIY) with a $20 switch and FORScan, if you want this feature.
  3. It adds skid plates. This is a $90 option that can be added to any build. It's more expensive and pretty difficult to install (the gas tank plate is really tough, from what I've read) after the fact. So, if you want the two factory skid plates, definitely be sure to order these as an option.
  4. It adds an FX4 sticker in place of the 4X4 sticker on the rear panel.
That's it. I don't know how anyone would arrive at a conclusion that that would help them to not get stuck somewhere. But, the power of marketing lives on. $400 gets you about $100 of value and a $300 sticker. Whatever floats your boat, but people shouldn't conflate FX4 with anything even remotely connected to offroad capability.

Good luck.

Have you decided on tires yet; just curious what you’re going with?

Hoping my wheels are finished powder coating by end of week and hope to have the Duratracks (325/60/20’s) mounted next week!

To be honest, I'm a big Cooper fan. I see Goodyear bought them out. I hope they don't change their AT3's. How much is your power coating?

The loss of towing capacity with the Tremor was a non-starter for me. Having owned a Raptor and seeing how incapable it was as an actual truck (but great as a toy) I didn't want to get stuck in that rut again. If you are going to have a Superduty, in my opinion, you want the full capability of a Superduty available to you.

I agree. And it's why I was very selective with the options when I placed my order.

I would of ordered a Tremor BUT i wanted a long bed. No down side to ordering a Tremor IMO. I did order the FX4 strictly for the skid plates...shocks,FX4 sticker etc. not so important or of any value

That's why I ordered a super cab, long bed, and not a tremor. Skid pads snowplow/camper package, which gave me the height I needed to run 35s. I wanted 4700+ payload and 20,000+ towing. Just need my tires and tru-trac.

FX4 option is a short cut for the guy ordering at the dealership. Forces the options of AT tires, locker, skid plates, and Includes specific shocks/sticker/hill descent button for around $400 (which is worthless IMO). Ford has used FX4 for many different packages over the years but thats what it is on a current Super Duty.

So when buying off a lot you will most likely get an FX4.

The Tremor is quite a bit different. I would research it and read the above which about covers it.
