I have an 84 f250 460. It has cruise control, automatic transmission. I can't find anything about a black wire with purple hash marks that is in the steering column. Does anyone know what it's for and does it need to be hooked up?
That's the wire that makes the buzzer work if you leave the key in the ignition and open the door.
That still works even with it unhooked. My boyfriend has wires all messed up. Can you tell me why my coil tests fine with ohm meter and has power when plugged in but not sending spark to distributor?

You need to get a testlight like the one below, harbor freight sells them. Clip the one lead to the metal on the engine, and then touch the probe to the negative of the coil. When you crank the engine, the testlight should blink. If it doesn't blink, the coil is not being turned on and off, that is the reason you do not have spark. That could be caused by the ignition module being bad, the distributor not turning, the module inside the distributor being bad, or a wiring problem out there.
