Wiper pivot question

Putting my wiper pivots in, and I’m not sure if the cork gasket goes on the under side or top side. It looks like it was disassembled with the gasket on the underside, shop manual does not tell me the details on this. I would think it goes top side, but does anyone know for sure?

It goes on the pivot, seals to inside of cowl.

Thank you for the confirmation. I guess Ford knows best, at least sometimes 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cork? Well, just so you know Ford originally used Leather there. Rich Corinthian Leather - yeah right! But, here's a pic of some. I laugh that they used Leather in this location.

C1TB-17A475-B - SEAL - WINDSHIELD WIPER PIVOT SHAFT TO COWL TOP - Leather

Oh, you are right, I think it probably was leather. I don’t think the replacement from China
is leather.

Tightening thoughts?

Since I’m getting a little response, any idea how to best tighten it up? I tried using some multifunction snap ring pliers, but they aren’t working real good. I probably wouldn’t even be replacing if someone had used the proper tool to remove the old ones. I could try and make something, but my welding skills aren’t very good.

All I did was buy a short piece of pipe, gas or water from Home Depot etc. Take the pipe and grind the end on a bench grinder leaving to nibbies across from each other-worked great. Pipe fits right over the shaft and is more than strong enough didn't leave any marks.

They do make a particular tool for that purpose but the homemade solution is great considering how many times you might use it. Here's a picture to give an idea.

I have plenty of old deep sockets that would be perfect for the job.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I like the pipe idea, I should have some laying around here. Hundred year old house, always a piece left over from something.

I found the pivot seals on Dennis Carpenter's site
https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tru...ivot-seal-pair

I just cleaned up my wiper motor and bracket today. It is a 2 speed setup with the original plug and switch and it still works.

My ‘62 was a single speed, but I parted out a ‘65 30+ years ago and kept the 2 speed. I had repair the melted park switch on it, seems to function just fine now. I thought the arms were the same, but checking for parts online, apparently the DS is 1/4” longer.

I am not sure if the park switch is working on my unit. When I turn the switch to off the motor just stops. Maybe it needs to be installed with the linkages hooked up.

Wait - there is a park switch?!
When I turn my switch off, the wipers stop - I assumed this was how it worked, and my video gaming skills (not) were what allowed me to get my wipers to stop down in a good position.
I'd love to hear more about a park switch that should be working on my '66 F250...
