My dad needs to know how to replace the oil screen on his 94 F-350 460 4x4. Process etc, as detailed as possibly. This is the supposed problem to his low oil pressure. Theory goes that oil gets sucked up into the engine, but when it gets hot it gunks up and he loses oil pressure. thanks for your help. -myers
There's one thing to remember, debri in the motor doesn't care what temp it is.
If you had debri on the oil pump pickup screen it would cause low oil pressure at any temp.
The most comon cause of low oil pressure after it reaches temp is loose bearing clearance.
Does the motor knock after warm up?
If it does, while it is running (and knocking) pull one spark plug wire at a time until there is a change in the knock (goes away/gets worse). When you find the one, this will be the bad cylinder, definitely not the pickup screen.
My dad says that yes it knocks when running but not bad. We will try the test sometime. His question is what happens when none of the cylinders are bad? but........ how do you remove the screen? thanks so far though -myers
You would just need to remove (or just let it rest on the frame)the oil pan and unbolt the pickup tube from the oil pump (two bolts) and the nut from the #5 main stud.
I would definitely do the test first though. Especially if it gets worse after warm up.
