My 79 F100 302 has a C4 in it. Does anybody know if its possible to put in a 4 speed AOD tranny, or how difficult it would be to put in a manual transmission.
A manual box will make mileage over a auto all the time. 3 or 4 speed will not influence mileage... final drive is always 1:1. It will only marginally make you quicker under acceleration if you have a narrow power band to work with (lots of cam.) This is a big can of worms... matching gear ratios, power band, final drive ratio's and tire size... in pursuit of an elusive few MPG. IMHO... I would be looking at fuel injection conversions before I started messing with gearing to save some gas. Best of luck.
