High milage excursion
I'm looking at purchasing an 04 excursion v10, it has 178,000 miles on it. As far as I can tell the owner took good care of it as its very clean inside and out and runs smooth. I'm intending to haul a 7,400 lb camper with it twice a year as well as have the room for the family, it won't be a daily . What are anyone's input on getting into one with this milage? Should I worry about the trans at this milage pulling a camper? I know the v10 is a good reliable motor but don't see much info regarding high milage. Any experience in this field is highly appreciated!
There are tons of rigs out there with double those miles. 178K is not high miles IMHO. As long as it's been taken care of, you shouldn't have any issues. The V10 folks will chime in here I'm sure, but I'd go over it with a fine tooth comb and check out the V10 folder:

And the X tech folder (which contains the V10 folder) for all the other stuff: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...excursion.html
One thing you'll probably want to do (just from my limited reading about the V10's here and what folks do), is check both the exhaust manifold studs, carry/check the COP's, and look into the 6.0 trans cooler for the 4R.
Good luck!!
