Help picking tires...

Ok I just picked these Methods up on craigslist, only one wheel had been mounted, the other four were sealed in the box! They are 17x8.5, 0mm offset. First question is should I go with 35x12.5 or 315/70r17? I am leaning toward the 315's, are there any real benefits to the true 35's?

Second, what would be a good tire for me? My truck is not a daily driver, I'm guessing I'll put 7k miles in it per year. Im guessing I will be doing 80% towing (7500lb TT), 10% hardware store/grocery runs, and 10% off road.

I am considering ridge grapplers, cooper st maxx, and stt pro's. The Nitto's are the only of the three that offer 35x12.5. my truck is stock with the camper package. The ridge grapplers are a little bit cheaper than the st maxx, but I think they are heavier. I like the look of the STT pro's the best, but I'm thinking they won't be as practical for towing.

This is my first truck so I have no experience with this type of tire.

Thanks!

I would go with which tire has the higher load rating...Im guessing the 315's ? All we are talking about is width differences.

I think Nitto & coopers are good choices. Im more towards Toyo & Cooper myself..but have heard that Nittos are made by Toyo ( true or not ? )

If it helps. I have the Method 312 18x9 on mine wrapped in 35x12.5 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's.

I do have a +1.5" leveling kit but I'm 99% certain tires would have fit without the leveling kit.

Which toyo's have you run? Have you used the st maxx's or pro's before? The 315's are actually 34.4x12.4, so just a tad smaller than 35s, but it seems like way more manufacturers make that size.

Toyo MT's , ATII & ATIII..I like the aggressive tread on MT's but not practical for all my road driving.. Never had an issue with the others..pretty quiet IMO

Toyo ATIII in 35 would be my vote, has the same load rating as the 315, even though the 35 is an E and the 315 is a D. 35 is lighter weight by a few lbs
You didn't mention if your truck is a 250 or a 350? Either tire will meet the axle rating of a 250, but will be a bit shy for the 350 rear axle rating.

Ok thanks for the input. I should be good on true 35s with no lift right? Or is that only true for 2017-2019 F250.

They might fit, but I would be prepared for the possibility that you'll need to level the front end at least 1.5". You new wheels will stick out about 1-3/4" more than your stock wheels, a 12.5" wide tire will bulge another 2" out from the wheel on each side.

2019 with no lift. Ridge Grappler 35x12.5x18 with 3000+ miles and I'm very happy with them. I actually lowered the rear using 2016 blocks so it would fit in my garage. Factory 18" wheels with no rubbing or clearance issues of any kind.

I have the Ridge Grapplers and I’m very happy with them. Pretty quiet on the highway and decent performance in mud & snow. I tow a 12k 5th wheel and they do fine with the weight.

The smaller actual size is true of every tire that I'm aware of. The standard inch sized tire, 35x12.5 17, probably has a similar dimension one way or another. Could be 34.5", or 34.3". Usually not a noticeable difference comparedto the metric sized tire. That varies from tire to tire, and in some cases the metric sized tire will be closer to the desired diameter.

Those are some nice looking wheels. The tire size should be a non issue on the truck but I wonder if that offset will create any rubbing issues.

Thanks for the pics! I think I'm going with the Nitto's. The toyo at3's seem like they might be a little bit better for all conditions but I think the Nitto's are a compromise between the at3 and something like the STT Pro.

I have 295/70/18 ST Maxx on my stock 2020 F350. I also had the ST Maxx on my 2000 F350, I really like them. I know it's not the size you're looking for, but I can tell you, these are great tires!

Those look awesome. I was considering those, they make them in 315/70r17. They are even more expensive than the RG's, and I read that they get pretty loud as they wear. What has your experience been?

I couldn't really hear them on my 2000, it was a 7.3 diesel, kinda loud, so covered the road noise. As far as the new truck, to me they're not to bad, but I only have 6k miles on the truck, and only about 4400 miles on the tires. But I can say this, I will continue to buy them, as long as they're available, and don't get to expensive!
