Brake proportioning valve

Hey everyone,
After a long cold winter I'm starting to pick up where I left off on my '78 F-150. I'm replacing all the brake lines and I'd like to know what I need to do with the proportioning valve? Should I remove it and clean it? If so, how do I clean it? Should I get a replacement? How do i know if its working properly?

Thanks,

Mike

It appears to be leaking. I would replace it.

I had just sprayed it with de-greaser before the photo-so hard to tell for sure.

Definitely replace, you could have a heck of a time getting new lines to seal good on the old prop valve, my experience has been old brake parts mating with new brake parts = headache.

Was it working before? Clean it,paint it, put it back. There's not much to it internally, if you want you can pull it apart and clean everything through the big nut on the end. You can search for pictures of a disassembly, doesn't have to be that Ford part, they're pretty much all the same, basically. There's no reason a new brake line won't seat, that's ridiculous, unless it's been damaged somehow. I've never heard of a prop valve failing other than when it's gunked up from never flushing the system. This is supposedly a 73-79 f250/f350 disk/drum valve cutaway i found here https://www.carolinaclassictrucks.co...d-250-350.html
