2017 lincoln navigator running boards won't stay out permanently even in "out" setting
how can i permanently leave the running boards out on a 2017 lincoln navigator? i think it's dangerous to have them moving all the time. i know how to set them on "out" on the advanced settings but they won't stay out. as soon as one drives away they retract again even if they were not in the auto setting. can i disable this feature permanently so they are always out? do i need to disable the motor while they are in the out position?

There is no way (That I could find) to have the running boards remain deployed at speed via the dash settings or FORScan. I wanted to have my power running boards deployed full time, but for different reasons. The stock Michelin Tires pick up and throw an inordinate amount of stones and rocks. I figured full time running boards would provide some protection. I had planned on splitting off the power wire near the motors and utilize on of my upfitter switches to disconnect power to the motors once they are deployed. Felt it would be an easy way to re-engage when needed. I ended up have the lower rock guard film applied and never followed up on the electric cut off option.

I think they are dangerous because if multiple kids are opening and closing doors , the running boards are going up and down. If someone is standing next to the door they may get hit with the running board or worse pinched in the board as it's closing. I just got this vehicle and I'm not used to motorized running boards and I've already gotten knocked in the leg.
Moms and kids are often distracted by other things to pay attention to running board movements. I'm actually surprised they even exist, they seem so dangerous to me.

As long as one door is open they will stay open. So if one kid closes a door and another opens theirs to jump out the running board will be out. Also, they will not close all the way if there is resistance, so being pinched in between, to the point of it being dangerous, is not likely. You can test the amount of resistance required to stop it yourself with a foot. It doesn't take much pressure to make it stay open.

They will not get hurt if the board hits them on the way out. It will bump them and either stop or retract. If there is any weight on them they will not close, if they get caught on the way up they stop and go back down.
Try this. As they are closing put your foot on it and see what happens. Don't step on it just put your foot there and give it some resistance.
