Honestly, front end looks better than most XLTs. The rear is still the rear. The pictures in the article seem to have the look of the sport appearance package when it comes to the seats and the rims. The rims are OK. I think they are better looking than the stock or fancy upgraded 20 inch rims. I was never really sold on the gen 5 or gen 6 rim look. However, I do like the departure of the 55 series tire. I perfer at least a 60 series or higher. That's me. IDK to each is their own.
Just what we need, another offroad oriented high $$$ package on cars/trucks that spend 95% of their time on paved highways, and the other 5% maybe on hard packed gravel roads. I can't count the number of doddery old men I see climbing out of their Raptors in suburban shopping malls.
But Alfred Sloan recognized back in the 1930s that sizzle sells more cars than steak.
I am reminded of the ill-fated Pontiac mini-van, the Montana.
When first introduced, it was called the Transport, and there was a "Montana" trim option.
So many people order the Transport in Montana trim, that Pontiac renamed the mini-van the Pontiac Montana the next year.
"I don't drive a Transport, I drive a Montana, Sheriff. What are you going to do about it?".
I remember when the GM launched those vehicles. My dad worked at a Chevy Buick dealer at the time when the van Lumina APV was released. He instantly called it a Dustbuster on wheels because that's what those vehicles reminded him. He brought home a brochure on it to show much my mom and i what this vehicle looked like since it was so different. Not to long ago I saw one on the road. My mother's brother ( no I do not call him uncle. Long story) I think still has The chevy version since he parks it at my aunt's house ( another long story) I don't think it has run in 5 years. I remember when I was kid thinking how cool that vehicle looked since it was pretty futuristic-looking.
I don't know but I like the looks over every with that version of the Explorer. It sorta of reminds me of the my Explorer Sport I owned 12 years ago. Honestly, if Ford would bring back a Full sized Bronco, you know F150 based, I would be "shut up and take my money" I hada Full Sized Bronco and loved it.

Save yourself some money. Buy an XL and a can of orange spray paint.
I see the Timberline and KR as similar to mid-grade gasoline. The cheap stuff is not good enough, and the good stuff is not cheap enough. So we will split in the middle. Buy the mid-grade.
I drove my Expy KR for 3 years. Faux luxury. XLT next time for me.
