Hello, thank you in advance for the inclusion in the forum. I come from Germany and drive a 1992 Ford E350 motorhome with 7.3 liter diesel. However, I am currently dissatisfied with that. I have the problem that the speedometer and odometer does not work. The ABS lamp also lights up and the overdrive light flashes. I have already changed the ABS sensor, cluster, gearbox, unfortunately, without success. Error codes OBD 1 23c and 29c. My hope is that there is help here in the forum. I have no more idea. Thanks for help :-)
Glad to have you join us, with a 29 year old vehicle it's going to have issues!
What transmission do you have ? I guessing that's where you are getting those codes from ?
You said you changed the "cluster" did you change the whole dash panel or just gauges? Do you know for certain the PIN connector is hooked up? Did you check any of the PINs for power?
Hello Scott, thank you very much for your answer. In Germany this is a very rare mobile phone and therefore it is worth keeping the part in life. We love our Ford. I swapped the entire speedometer unit. I have a Ford OBD1 scanner and read out the errors with it. It is an E4oD gearbox (new).
the VSS signal goes to the PSOM and to the RABS Module... the signal comes out of the PSOM to the E4OD transmission .. since you are getting an ABS light my guess is you have a bad wire between VSS sensor and the ABS module.
in my 93 F250 it is behind the glove box .... I'm not 100% sure where it is located in the E series....BUT I think follow the wires from the VSS to where it goes into the cab..the problem could be in that Firewall connector. now the VSS test connector is near where the VIP connector is located where you pull code from the Transmission PCM/TECA.. (that would be the C143 connector I show in the generic diagram)
I'll watch the same tomorrow. And that could be the reason why odometers and speedometers are dead? The kilometer display has no function. I have to note that my previous owner converted all lights to LED (headlights, brake lights, turn signals, front + rear)

the Odometer should still be giving you a reading even with no VSS input .. it just will not count up... IF it is dead and there is no display shown then there is a Power or ground issue..
in your case fuse #17 powers the RABS control module
the PSOM is powered with fuse #17 and #8
I would not think the ABS indicator would be lit up if fuse #17 was blown.
