we have a 1972 f250 2wd with a 390. has anyone put headers on that fit well and are happy with them. we already split the exhaust into duals but not sure we need the header trouble unless there are good headers available. thanks.
I'm running Sanderson Shorties, I replaced some Hedman headers that worked on the stock iron heads but didn't mate to the CJ style ports on the BBM aluminum heads I put on the 445. I painted them with POR high temp paint and I used a stock starter. The flanges on the Sanderson headers were MUCH thicker and didn't distort where the Hedman were a little flimsy.
One thing I will say is don't mess around with so-called header bolts. Install studs and get aircraft lock nuts. They are slightly oval in shape and have little cuts in them to let them deform as they go on. They will never back out and you can re-tight them if you need. I also learned NOT to use a gasket. Put some high temp silicone on the flange in a thin bead 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch) let it set for half an hour and bold the headers on and let them set overnight. Don't over tighten.
