Smile Help with brakes

I知 a new person to the forum. I bought a F150 for my farm in 2011. I carry a load of hay in it once a month. She has 15,000 miles on her now. She痴 in for inspection now at our Ford Dealership. They say she needs brakes and tires. I知 very elderly and afraid this may not be right. Can someone give me advice please?
Thank You

Welcome to FTE.

Your query is very difficult to answer without actually seeing the truck. 15000 miles is not a lot for brakes, but if they have been exposed to a lot of moisture, while sitting, I suppose it;s possible. The tires are another issue. Tires "dry rot". After ten years and little use, it is very likely they need to be replaced. At the top of your screen, you'll see the "Forums" banner. Click on it and scroll down to the section marked, "Regional Chapters". Click on and look for the "Mid-Atlantic" region. In there, you'll find the Pennsylvania chapter. It is a group of great people who are more than willing to help. Join the chapter and see if possibly one of the other members is a neighbor or someone nearby. Maybe they would be willing to take a look at your truck and help you resolve the issue. The other option is to take it to an independent inspection garage and see if they come up with the same answer.

I tend to agree with the others above. Tires dry-rot and you're at ten years. That's a good run. If there's no cracking then maybe you can get a little more time out of them. I'd be surprised if there's no cracking.

Regarding the brakes, that depends on how it has been used. Airport ground-support vehicles are often sold off at 20 years old with 5,000 miles on them and were used all day every day, but for short and slow trips and lots and stop and go. They go through some brake pads and tires in their lives. We can't tell how your truck was used, but if they gave you actual measurements (like 10/32nds remaining etc.) then we could give you a better idea.

Welcome aboard!
