My dealer said they don't put them in because they get stolen. Meh, ok no worries. Mine are still in the factory package and I'll install this Spring.
Anyone thought of putting some LUBE on it before installing, knowing these are an issue? I'd rather not scrape off the paint on them.
I'll be lubing mine up first, maybe this weekend where it may hit 50°
If yours are like mine, lubing will not even come close to allowing them to be installed. I like others do not recommend using a mallet to drive them in as that is not how you would want them for easy removal and installation in the future. You do not have to worry about removing paint as they appear to be made of some sort of high density plastic and the inner track you would be relieving by removing material is completely out of sight..
If anyone thinks the factory BoxLink tie downs are that much of a pain in the ***, E track hardware will fit the box brackets. More of a variety of attachments, fairly inexpensive too.
I didn't find the factory tie downs all that easy to work with either.
I wanted to try that yesterday. Couldn't get them out

This.
The e-track clips work just fine in the stock brackets. I'd wager they're also stronger as well. Get a set of ring type clips and you have a strong point of attachment.
When installing them, instead of pulling straight up on them, pull up and twist the top out towards the center of the bed and they'll slide right in. The backs are kind of curved and if you pull straight up, the will jam and refuse to move. Pulling out on the top and up fixes it.
Some of you guys are tone deaf.
The tie downs that came with my 2021 were manufactured with the installation track gap way too narrow. Mine would barely even begin to slide in the track, it had nothing to do with side to side or up and down subtle installation movements. It was very easy to diagnose and fix with a simple flat file. Do not assume that the ones you received with your Ford truck were the exact same internal dimension as mine or others here who encountered the exact same issue I did.
Auto makers routinely have recalls over particular part batches and manufacturing dates over the very issue of variances.
Sorry can't hear you. My 2021 tie downs slipped right in without loosening the brackets or filing anything. Simple matter of technique. They would not budge when pulling straight up on them, slid right up when pulling out. Glad I ignored your earlier advice and avoided mangling my brackets.

Yours may be a simple technique.
My simple technique to put them is was a rubber mallet. That technique doesn't work so well for taking them out because of the lock
Mine will be in until I find some reason to take them out, at which time I'll be removing the bracelet off the side wall.

you got lightweight plastic? I know I've not taken mine out of the package but they are pretty damn heavy to be plastic. And it's a tie down, why would they make it plastic?
