Bad flywheel
Thanks any tip on pullen the granny box I 've had it out twice but it SQASHED me twice. it does not get any easier with experience only more agonising. I have a HELL of a time getting it back it because i'm not at the angle the truck is at when i have 275lbs of cast iron on my chest! So it does not line up and go in.
thanks,
Dustin
Flywheels at the local parts store around here run about $55.00. It should come with a new ring gear already installed.
You have an alternative but it is a royal pain. You can just replace the ring gear. Once you have the flywheel out the ring gear will come off of it by using a hammer. Buy a new gear. The problem is installing the gear on the flywheel. Getting it to go on square is a real pain!!! It is very hard to get started on the flywheel and I don't recommend it.
Since you have the tranny out to do this I would also check the throw-out bearing and pilot bearing.
Good luck,
As for pulling the heavy tranny. You need either a tranny jack which can probably be rented or a few strong friends. That beast is heavy.
I use a modified floor jack when R&R'ing my 435.
Be careful and good luck,
