Heater issue

Hey guys, I have a 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0. I have no heat or defrost at idle, but quickly heats up once moving. I have replaced the vacuum pump. No head gasket issues, as they checked that, new radiator, new degas bottle, and heater core flushed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

What is your actual engine temperature compared to what the gauge shows?

I have no direct experience with the 6.0 but to me it Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.

I have the exact same issue with a 2003 6.0. Around 1200 RPM it will blow nice warm/hot air. At idle cold. I have changed heater cores, thermostat, etc. no head gasket issues either. I was told to add more coolant..... that didn’t work. I would love to figure this out also.

DWeber..... if Clays issue is the same as mine then the thermostat is not the problem. If tstat fails it will fail open or at least partially open. This will cause the ECT and EOT not to get to operating temp. Our issu is that the temps will come up to where they should be but we will not get heat at idle/ low rpm. In my case around 1200 rpm and it blows as hot as you want to make it. Let off the throttle and it will blow cold .

Are both hoses of the heater core hot? What about the rear heater, is it hot? I am going through this with mine right now, but mine is a v10. It is getting to operating temp at idle however the heater puts out better heat at higher rpm. I am suspecting a partially plugged core on mine.

Could you check to make sure that the temperature adjustment door is actually moving to full "hot". It is a good sign that both heater hoses are hot.

What was the actual test someone did to say the HGs were Ok? Just inquiring as when my HGs went it did the same thing and I am not trying to scare you.

What make was the thermostat? Do you have a full engine monitoring system on?

The waterpumps on a 6.0 are marginal at best for flow at idle.

Rob

Rob,
for HGs.... bubble test, degas bottle pressure test, homemade HERO kit, test for exhaust gases in degas bottle. I do have full monitoring via CTS2. ECT/EOT with max spread of 9 degrees. No rough idle, white smoke, poor performance. T stat is FoMoCo. I have no issues with temperatures as long as rpm is about 1200 or over. No puking from degas bottle. I do not have an EGR. Coolant filter, oil cooler relocation kit. Runs great with zero issues other than it won’t blow warm air at idle. Coolant level hasn’t changed.... I keep it just below cold line on bottle. Have a new degas cap. Both heater cores are new. I also have the billet BPD water pump that is less than 2 years old. This thing is driving me 😜
