I dunno, I've had a smell like that in 4hi and when plowing since truck was new. I know many folks have experienced the same smell. No idea what the root of this is, but after 60K it's not been an issue for anyone including myself. Run with it!
When i put my 2018 xlt 6.2 in 4wd i get a burning smell through the heater. Any tips would be helpful Thank you
So you think the smell might be coming through the engine bay and going into the cowl vent at the windshield ? If that were my truck I'd worry about it. That truck would be on 4 jack stands with cribbing maybe for safety and I'd be running the drive train looking, checking, touching and maybe pull out my infrared thermometer. I would find what it was in about a half an hour, that would be the easy part. Don't forget to have the person running it step on the brakes before they put it in park (doesn't sound good).
On a F150 4x4, I kept smelling a faint propane/sulphur/rotten egg odor when the air vents were open, or when standing near the front wheels when parked with hot engine. Turned out the front drive shaft CV seal had a small leak that sprayed CV lubricant onto an exhaust component. Only fix was to replace the drive shaft, and clean as much of the glazed residue off the exhaust as possible (tight spaces). That fixed the problem. No odor since.
My 17 6.2 f250 (38k miles)smells like burning when I’m in 4wheel. Just noticed it this winter.
not really while on the highway. But definitely when parked

So that must mean it is a slight smell (small something overheat).
It’s actually my power steering is leaking on to the front diff. I thought it was just hard to steer because of all the hard back snow. No it’s just a failed power steering unit. Anyone know if this is easy to replace or should I have a pro do it.

Thanks for the update. If it were mine and out of warranty I would still take it to dealer. I do my own brakes, fluids, front end and some suspension, used to do all my own stuff except rebuild a tranny. These new vehicles w/o a lift and a lot of times specific knowledge is tough.
