We will be towing....is a 4.0 tough enough? (we tow a 5,000LB boat and trailer not far, but we tow it)
Any known problems with engine?
Also it has 119,000 km's on it. Body in good to excellent shape.
Price is $32,000 (Canadian)
Is that a good deal?????? we are having difficulty finding any comparisons.
We are looking at a 1999 Ford F350 supercab 4x4 with a 4.0 Deisel engine.....its pretty loaded , leather seats, cruise, trailer hitch/tow package, Off road, Automatic.

The diesel in a '99 F350 is a 7.3 not a 4.0, and has plenty of power to pull 12,000 lbs...5000 is a piece of cake. The weak link is the auto transmission, and the '99 had some turbo bolt issues (it ingested a few of them which is not good
) 119K kilometers is nothing for a well cared for diesel. The warranty on them is 100K miles. That one probably still has some warranty as it is in kilometers.
The price sounds a little high. Check on www.edmunds.com for a used price on this model. You will have to plug in the options and recalculate kilometer to miles (80,000 converted???).
You might have the tranny serviced if you buy it, and you can also have the engine oil analyzed for unusual metals/signs of wear.
As mentioned, the only diesel available in the F350 is the 7.3L Power Stroke.
Any SD, even the 5.4L V8, will handle a 5000lb trailer no sweat. Especially on relatively short jaunts.
I've had no problems with my automatic. You can do a little research here and I think you'll come to the conclusion that it's basically personal preference, as neither manual or automatic has a distinct advantage in terms of reliability or cost/km.
As for the price, it sounds VERY high to me. What part of Canada are you in?

Yes the engine is a 7.3......it was a typo, sorry.
Thinking we will beat down on the price a bit, even though the thing is absolutley loaded and excellent shape.
A buddy of mine just bought an '04 F350 Lariat (LOADED) with the new 6.0L diesel and 5spd automatic for ~$52K CDN tax in.
That price is pretty high for a '99, even if the truck is in excellent shape.
