I haven't had any near-death/maiming experiences, mainly because I lack both the talent and knowledge to work on things that can kill or maim a person. Mine is a more mundane DIY Oopsie. Back in the day, probably early 90's, we (Wifey) decided we didn't like the wallpaper in our kitchen. The house was a few years old and it was what the builders had done. I get it removed and the sheetrock repaired in places that succumbed to the removal process, and put a nice primer coat of Kilz on it. Now, not to brag, but Wifey and I can paint. We are good at it, but it's not like we enjoy it. Never has Wifey invited me for a romp and I reply; "Not now Honey, I have some painting to do!" Anyway, we go get the paint. We always buy a good quality paint in the hopes that it will hold up for a few years and cover in one coat. Wifey decides she wants a light pink color....Remember, this is back in the day. We (she) decides on the shade of pink, the guy mixes it, and off we go. As we progress we notice that it is a few shades darker than the color swatch. We figure maybe it'll dry lighter. No dice. This crap was the color of a, can't say that here, it was Pepto Bismol pink!! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge!!! End up putting another coat of Kilz and repainting it with a pink that was about 4 shades lighter than the original. Our weekend project turns out to be two weekends plus. It turned out like we (she) wanted but a lot more expensive and time consuming. Probably ended up with 1/4" primer & paint on those walls.
^^^ My gawd I had an almost exact same situation with what sounds like the same color! Was rooming with a few other guys in an old Victorian home, one with 10' ceilings etc. Having a pool table in the sitting room we thought a nice shade of deep purple would be uber cool. It looked a bit light in the cab, we too thought it would darken a bit as it dried---wrong!
We lived with it, too lazy and too much beer to drink so it was that same color until we moved out. I can NOT imagine how quickly the new occupants re-painted that room.
paint. ya can't go wrong with white, rite???
parents went away and i volunteered to repaint their house while they were gone. went to the store and got 10 gallons of white paint.
well, i found out not all white paint is white.
the bucket i picked was seashell.
which is a pink tint of white.
being color blind, i did not notice it. but mom did as soon as she walked into the house.
and she made sure to keep the color code, and reused it for the next paint job too.
she even had the condo painted that color when they downsized 26 years ago.
that was an oopsie that turned into a success instead of a failure.
You got lucky!! Imagine if she hadn't liked it. You must be a saint, really love your parents, or been a really bad kid and your conscious caught up to you... I couldn't imagine volunteering to paint a single sheet of plywood much less a whole house!
