I have a 1988 250 and if I remember correctly from when I changed mine that they are shaped differently on account of the different shape of the two tanks.
Ok, so I looked up part numbers on rockauto, looks like they are different.
One other question...I know that each sending unit has a small pump, Im assuming there is another hp fuel pump as well further down the line? There is just one of those, correct?
On that model truck with two fuel tanks, each tank has it's own pump and gauge sending unit. The switch on the dashboard controls which pump runs. The fuel then goes to a "reservoir" unit on the frame under the drivers seat. That unit then switches to send the surplus fuel back to the tank that pumped it - or at least it's supposed to. What happens in reality, it doesn't always switch, so the surplus fuel goes back to the other tank, filling the wrong tank. From the reservoir, the fuel then goes to a frame-mounted higher-pressure pump and then thru the fuel filter, then to the engine - all of this on the frame under the drivers seat.
The switch on the dash doesn't control the reservoir valve, it controls which pump puts pressure into the reservoir valve, that pressure is supposed to control the valve.
