Do you do a lot of idling or low speed stop and go?
I got the truck with 24K on it, and not really many idle hours. Drive mainly back and forth to work 15 minutes each way, except for hunting season when it gets used hauling Camper and side by side. I will start checking the sensor at every oil change from now on. Thanks much for this forum and all of the valuable content in here.
Yeah, I'm a bit curious as the the operating condition for this truck as well.
I'm not indicating it's bad or anything has been done incorrectly. Genuinely curious.
I do not know about before I purchased the truck, but was clean as a pen on inside and out. Local one owner that was very well maintained. I am OCD on service and cleanliness of the vehicle. Since purchase, I have converted into a poor mans Tremor minus the 10 speed (LOL). Bilstein shocks, Bilstien dual steering stabilizer, skid plates, programmer, 35x12.50 AT2 Extremes, and many other goodies. Don’t beat up on me too hard guys; really like this ride....................RR
I pulled mine on my '17 with almost 65k miles on it and it wasn't quite that bad. I pulled it cause I was getting a code, cleaned it up and thought that might help clear it. Turns out the MAF sensor was bad. Replaced under warranty and the truck has been fine since then. I probably won't check it again for 25,000 miles or so.
Was curious after seeing this...pulled mine and cleaned it up. 40K miles. ~ 18% of engine hours is from idling. Have others pulled and inspected? Here are the before and after pics.
I went the microfiber cloth, scrape out gently method...no chemical cleaners.
After finding this thread I google searched the subject and found what appeared to be a forum with techs discussing it. One said that if anything(cleaner?) gets to the electronics inside the MAP it's toast. I was a little surprised as I've used electronics parts cleaner liberally on Toyota MAF sensors without any issue. The MAP sensor must be a different animal.
So you just try to gently knock off the build up, does it build up in the hole much?
