Typically nothing in an '03 would be OBD-II readable, adding a transmission temperature gauge would require an aftermarket gauge and sender that's installed in an accessible port on the transmission case. Its exact location can be found in the Transmissions sub-forum.

well IDK but my 03 F350 5.4L has a Trans temp gauge from the factory but idk if Hou can read it through an OBD II reader. I suppose you'd have to ha a reader capable of reading trans codes too.

E-Series and F-Series are very different vehicles, I'm not familiar with the factory-equipped gauges available.

Typical hand-held scanners don't read transmissions codes.

Yes your trans has a fluid temp sensor and it is readable with a scan tool
You do not want to have to read it from a scan tool all day long so yes install an aftermarket gauge and sender
If you have a 4R75E the sensor is just in front of the shift linkage on the drivers side (the line pressure tap)
" " " " 4R100 " " " inside the pan
Do it and add an auxiliary transmission cooler. Then enjoy watching your trans live

If there’s a built in temp sensor it should be accessible with a ScanGauge device. Much easier than adding a gauge, wires and sensor. Plus you get a tach if you don’t have one and a more direct reading of coolant temp than the highly buffered dash temp gauge. And mpg, fault codes and other metrics. Plug it into the OBD port, tape it to the steering column, enjoy.

I have no stake in ScanGauge sales. I wish I drove the van enough to warrant such a device. All I’ve towed is a riding mower that weighed less than the utility trailer.

There are spiffy big screen stereos with Bluetooth that connect to OBD for custom gauge displays. Too much for me.
