@Peter Regalado , You need to have someone with a good scanner check the OBDII parameter called "MILES DRIVEN SINCE CODES CLEARED", and "P1000", and "EMISSIONS TESTS COMPLETE" "TRIP CNT", etc etc. If it indicates the person who sold you the vehicle had just cleared the codes, you oughta' sue the hell out of them! There are numerous parameters in OBDII that will support / confirm whether the dealer was trying to screw you by hiding something. Numerous codes (such as CAT codes and CAM codes) require multiple drive cycles to pop up. Some car salesmen have code readers and routinely reset codes.

Having said all that, your P0430 doesn't _necessarily_ mean your CAT is toast. You could have something else (vacuum leak on bank 2, misfires -flashing CEL, overactive injector) or something else overwhelming the CAT causing it to operate below factory spec efficiency. If that is the case, correct that QUICK - before ruining the CAT, and it could be fine.

Torqued's gonna yell at me but anti-foulers work wonders. Seriously. Torqued'll say I'm a hack but that's what I'd do...no emissions inspections for me and I refuse to spend more $$ than necessary to make the gubermint happy. I know, I know I'm a horrible person and I'm killing us all. Look over there! C19! Focus on that fear for now...

Naah -- you're cool. Just that My only experience with P0420 / 430 code was curred when I got rid of the misfires, and they 'healed'. With 260k miles on her now, I'm not so sure I'd be against the hack now if they came back on a perminent basis.
