Help, 1993 f-150 4x4 transmission

I just bought a 1993 f-150 4x4. Can anyone tell me why there is a hole at the bottom of the transmission? It's about the size of a half-dollar. Should it be plugged up? Thanks.

There used to be a rubber plug that went in there. It plugs the hole used to access the torque converter's drain plug. I would find another rubber plug. Try the "Help" series in a parts store, or dealer if need be. The rubber plug helps stop road grit from getting up behind the torque converter and getting into the transmission's input seal. To replace that seal, the trans has to be pulled, so plug that hole!

Thanks for the info. It makes since to me know and I'll be getting a plug in the morning. Again, thanks.
