I ran my excursion v10, 2003 low on oil. Now it has an engine knock. It’s had 2 oil changes since, still knocks. It has an engine light on. Code says it’s the fuel pump, which I have know has been ready to go out for a while due to the fuel gage jumping around, (full-empty-full-empty) even when I know it’s full. Runs strong though. Has 78,000 miles, in great shape. Is the engine toast? Or is there anything I can have done to correct the engine knock? I’m having the fuel pump changed this weekend. TIA.
Most likely something unfortunate has happened, and there is some unhappy component inside the engine waiting for enough stress to fully break, wear out, etc, this is why oil and oil pressure are extremely important.
running with low oil, even worse without oil pressure, more than maybe a moment, might as well just go get a long block, or find a wrecked v!0 cargo can or Ex to grab the motor from, don't even bother pulling the top end off usually.
There is no magical anti-knock, fix my bent valve, or bent rod, or spun bearing fluid.

Don’t know exact code. Son in law checked it and said fuel pump, which made since with the fuel gage going crazy lately. The engine light just came on a few weeks ago. No lights till now. Don’t drive it very often..
