Hey Denny. It's 9 below right now in Rice lake--with a wind chill of negative 24. There are only 13 inches of snow on the ground though. Winter is late is year.

The predicted low for tonight for Rice Lake is 22 below. Wind chills for tomorrow negative 39.

I cancelled my Rice Lake reservations for Birkie week-end--Lots of changes to the race this year because of Covid. One change is that they are allowing contestants to do their race "virtually". Races aren't going to be timed, and you can do your race anywhere. I'm going to do my race locally. There won't be any of the dreaded long up-hills on the course where I'm doing the race. I just need to go the distance and have a witness vouch I did it without interruption. Good thing, because I'm having a hard time getting in shape.

50 degrees and sunny today. Before you feel too bad for me, a cold front is coming through and it's supposed to be down in the teens and chance of snow by mid-week through next week. Oh, and before you have to ask, yes, this is the view from my porch. The little dots on the water are ducks on the lake of the McNary Federal Wildlife Refuge.

Wayne, could you please send me some of that sunlight? Didn’t see the sun for weeks now. Last weekend the winter hit us hard with rain, that became ice immediately when hitting the ground. Now everything is covered with a thick layer of ice. The roads were almost empty on the weekends due to the pandemic but the ice-rain made that even worse. Our little village made me feel like in a ghost town. Due to two different air currents, one coming from the Mediterranean in the south and the other coming from the Arctic in the north, the south of Germany has spring with temps up to 15 degrees Celsius and the north deepest winter with temps of -12 degrees Celsius and below. I live exactly in the middle of that, but the cold is creeping down from the north with more snow to come...no way to work in the workshop.

-51 c - do you live on the North Pole? Man that’s really cold. The lowest temperature ever recorded in a village in Germany was -32 c.

That's with windchill . We were supposed to hit -40 but I think mine only got to -39 . And yes with the wind gusting to 50km it's $^$#$ cold. We have some sort of polar something or another stopped on top of the prairie provinces causing some of the coldest temps in years . The high for Wednesday is -23 and that will be the warmest for at least the next week . Really something to look forward to .

I feel ya! I have chosen to live in the mountains of Idaho where we only get 5 months of having no snow on the ground. As I look out my window now there is 4 to 5 feet of snow on the ground, my 5 foot fence is essentially gone in most places (the dog hops over the snow covered fence), and there is a ten foot pile of snow along the west side of the house from removing the snow from the flat carport roof (I clear the flat roof every time it has three feet of snow on it - usually twice, but sometimes three times per winter).

The outside temp at night is in the single digits and we consider 30 degrees to be warm. The shop is too cold as the heater is not keeping up...

I did this to myself no doubt! While I have not lived here all my life, I was born here and came back. It a little fun to say I literally live one block from the building I was born in.

The good stuff - A pair of Bald Eagles, a family of whitetail deer, and the river are also right out my window!

O yes it's all perspective . I've lived here or near here for the majority of my life . This will be the longest real cold we've had for many years .
