Ok I have read the manual. I have small tractor with a diesel engine when I turn the key I see my glow plug light come on for a minute then go out.
On my truck I have not seen one yet. I hop in turn the key to on and nothing, I turn it to start and it fires right off. I keep it in my garage so the temp is around 50 degrees or so.
So should I be seeing the glow plug light or is there and issue?
I will be parking it outside in 25 degree weather for a few hours today and want to make sure I am not missing something.
On my truck, if it's cold there is a delay for a few seconds after pressing the start button. It is an automatic process and there is no indicator light like on my Cummins Motorhome engine the has a light "Wait to Start".
On my 2020 F450 if I push the start button without my foot on the brake and if it’s cold enough the glow plug light will come on for like a second or 2. When it goes off I put my foot on the brake and hit start again. Seems to mimic the way I started my ‘16 with a key.
I have a '19 6.7, key start, there is a light showing the glow plug on the dash. On a cold day, I turn it to 'on', the glow plug light comes on for a few seconds, goes out, then I start it. If I remote start it, there is a delay when it's cold.

Turn the key to on without turning the key to start. Do not start the engine until the glow-plug indicator turns off. When the glow plug pre-heat indicator turns off, turn the key to start and release the key as soon as the engine starts. After starting the engine, the glow plugs may remain on for a period. If you do not start the engine before the glow plug activation time ends, you will need to reset the glow plugs by turning the key to off. After the engine starts, allow it to idle for about 15 seconds. This is to protect the engine. Do not increase engine speed until the oil pressure gauge indicates normal pressure.

This symbol on the dash.
Thanks. I read the manual. I turned the key and was expecting to see the glow plug message. I have not seen it yet. Today is the coldest since I bought it last week. It is garage kept so around 50 degrees inside. It will be outside in 25 or so degrees weather for a few hours. I will see this afternoon if it comes on. If not I am heading to the dealer and have them check it, cause at 25 degrees it should as far as I know.
It's not in te owners manual but in the diesel supplement manual.
Sorry I read that also. I understand how it supposed to work I just do not see it doing it when I turn the key and wait. The truck fires right off when I turn it to start.
So in my 50 degree garage I have not seen it say wait or the glow plug indication or anything. I am wondering if I have a problem with mine. I will see when it sits for a few hours in 25 degree weather.

It is in the owners manual. 2019 manual starting and stopping instructions start on page 178.
The thing to keep in mind here is these are not the diesels of the past and they use what they call a fast start glow plug system. 50 degrees is not cold, 25 degrees might be cold enough to see the glow plug light for a second. Its not even until -9 degrees that Ford recommends using a block heater.
You should be looking for a small glow plug icon in the lower right hand side of the dash. I can see the light every time start my truck up when it's cold. I have never seen a message pop up.
Mine is a 2021 Lariat key start. I left it parked outside in the 25 degree weather. I did read they are calling it a Fast Start Glow Plug system, but I still figured I would at least see the warning or the light.
