I had my truck checked at Autozone and it beeped a Code 12. My problem is the truck power goees on and off...not like a miss but like a choked is coming on and then it comes out of it.
The code 12 showed a Throttle Body Air Valve or something like that. It is on the right side of the throttle body with a selonoid on the front of it.
This is on an 89 F150 5.0 4x4.
I was told to try cleaning it and then replaace if needed.
Is this what happens with this part bad or blocked?
Thanks for any help. I will t ry searching this site again as I really don't know tthe correct name for it.
Hi and welcome to FTE
It is called an IAC (idle air control)
It controls airflow to the engine. As they age, they get slow and sometimes quit working all together. It may help to clean it, but since you have to remove the throttlebody to get it off anyway, I would go on and put a new one on it.
It is held on by 2 8mm bolts and has 2 wires in the plug to it.

Thanks, I did clean it and then unhooked the batt and went down and had it re-checked. No errors. 11 he said...all clear.
I just know when you nail it after it is warm it falls on its face and even pings and does not seem iit is getting advance and fuel. Just had the dealer put new plugs in it and it could need some new wires but this seems like vacum leak or an advance problem. Maybe it is fuel....I don't know.
They are in the intake manifold near the valvecovers. There is one for each cylinder. They clean them by using a high pressure solution injected into the test port on the fuel rail.
