Long story short got a 2002 Ford Excursion 5.4L have had a transmission issue for a while and turns out its the alternator causing signal issues with the VSS and now I even have a battery light flashing under WOT, got an alternator laying around but it is for a 2005 expedition, bolts look like they line up connector has three pins as well, anyone know if I should try using this alternator? I tried to cross reference parts and nothing matched up and someone warned me about a PCM controlled regulator on the newer Ford trucks but I am unsure if this alternator has that or not.
I have looked into this as well, the Alternator from the newer trucks is a far better alternator, more output, more efficient, etc. I wanted to put a 2010 Alternator into my Excursion, but not sure it will fit and could not find any definitive's.
A common fix for 05-08 Mustang GTs where you need more alternator power is to get a 09-10 Mustang GT Alternator, as they are 3-phase, and work so much better, I would like to put the truck equivalent into the Ex if it will fit...
I have a Leese-Neville (230 I think) on mine and it puts out like 10 MF'rs. I added a power and ground wire to the second battery as well, helped big time and is recommended for high power alts.
