hey guys,
Just wanted to know if you have heard of what benefits this wil give me.. i just made a new flange and unbolted my cat and muffler.. I put 3.5" od pipe in its place, you can really hear the turbo spool up.. the only thing is it feels like it lost power to be honest??? i figured with out the cat and muffler it would let the turbo work more efficently?? Do i need a chip and intaske tube now to fully realize the benefits of a no restrictions exhaust?? Did doing this make me loose power?, should i put the stock stuff back on, i do want to put a tuner or chip, but i have heard that to runthe stage 3 you need an free flowing exhaust?? clue me in... this is my first psd.. thanks, oh yea its an 03, f250 graphite, 4 dr, short bed, 3.73 limited slip, 16" wheels,,, beautiful truck love it... thanks guys for your advice
I had the latest and while it fixed 99% of the problems I've had and /or heard about... the fuel mileage is still not there...
I have to admit, however, that it may be my driving - after 12K miles, I've gotten familiar with my Ex enough to where it's a 'daily driver' and so I don't baby it...
As far as exhaust, I only did the muffler removal - left the cat on - I did this as a first step to see if this would work b4 getting any other exhaust work... thus far I like it...
and get compliments and "What Exhaust?!?" from the gearheads!
Next step is to wade thru the hype/Atta boys and find out which chip/programmer comes out as the best bang for the buck...
I don't have to have the latest and greatest and most powerful...
I would just like a little more of what I have
I have not done any flashes... Dont really know what they are? Do you have to go to the service center and put it under warranty? I was planning on getting a programmer or chip and a intake system.. I dont know which ones to get yet.. I did a mpg reading today by hand and it came out to 13.7mpg city little highway also.
The 6.0L diesels have a LOT of computer controlled 'stuff' and Ford has released a new version of the 'programming' that they 'flash' into the computer at your service dept...
If you have any of the reported shortconimgs of the old program, like improper idle, poor mileage, smoking... poor downshift performance in tow/haul... get the flashes...
I read a few articles with people removing the exaust and getting better milage. So I removed mine from the cat back and took it for a drive better response with a whole lot of turbo whine to much but sounded like my 50 mustang at wide open throttle. So I put the cat on and disconnected pipe from muffler this seemed to lower turbo wine to tollerable levels but added some bass to the sound at wide open throttle drove for 2 days like this didnt seem to be any more responsive or have more power milage stayed the same of course I was getting on it just to hear the sound seem to me like the cat is the power restricter but the best muffler for the turbo whine Im just wondering how a 4" exaust would do.
yea you are right about the turbo alright, that sucker is loud, the truck may have gotten a little quicker, the truck beat a excursion diesel with a gold superchip chip stage 3, with a drop in k&N filter. that truck beat me before the exhaut upgrade.. i havent gotten a true mileage out of it yet.. i will keep you posted
