I had a Bedrug in my prior tuck and loved it, but it had a camper shell. Does anyone use a Bedrug with an open bed? Any issues, such as it flying out or flapping around? Interested in the floor and integrated tailgate model.
Looking to have a better surface for sliding heavy items out of the truck’s bed. Transported a large and heavy vanity for a bathroom remodel and had issues with it getting caught on the plugs for the fifth wheel that are in the floor of the bed.
I've had one for about 4 months now and I really like it. No flapping or shifting around but haven't slid many heavy things across it but what I have has been no problem.
2020 F250 6.75’ bed. Linex with BedRug mat. Did not use Velcro it came with, just threw it in there. Hasn’t come out yet. Once it folded up a little by the cab, but that could have been from anything since it only happened once. Live in a rural area and drive 60-75 everywhere.
Can’t say it couldn’t ever come out, but now I don’t worry about it.
Not in a SD, but I have the full bedrug in my 2015 F150. I've driven in many miles with the rolling cover rolled up and never had any issues. The cover does tend to stay wet when it does get wet though. Takes several sunny summer days to fully dry out, Pennsylvania summer days that is.
If the full BedRug is installed properly with all the Velcro, it shouldn't come out. I run one with a camper shell, but to improve durability, I also have a rubber bed mat on top of it as well.
I have had three BedRugs now and I like them. All three have been the "Classic" that goes all the way up the sides.
However, we now have the factory spray-in bed liner ("Tough Bed") and an Access Truck Bed Mat. The material is similar to the BedRug but, it doesn't pill like the BedRug.
We used the adhesive snaps. They don't seem to have stuck to the Tough Bed liner all that well. But, we have a tonneau. When the tonneau is open, that means there is something in the bed. That means whatever is keeping the tonneau from closing is also keeping the Bed Mat down.
You can see a bit of our Bed Mat here as I was cutting it to use the OEM Gooseneck Ball:
I have a Bed Rug that I installed in my F350 with the Ford spray bed liner. I used the stick down velcro stuff that came with the liner. I was going about 50 mph down a local when it flew out and landed on the hood of a city animal control truck following me. Luckily the driver was a really nice guy and helped me put it back in my truck. I have since used some stainless steel screws with some fairly large washers to hold it down in few places. The downside is I have a few #8 screw holes in the bed. The upside is I can tow our fifth wheel without worrying about it flapping up. We have a Reese Goose Box on the fifth wheel which requires attaching a couple of safety chains and airing up the air bag. I have to crawl in the bed to do it and bed rug is really nice on the decrepit old knees.
I've been running open with the full bedrug for a year/20K miles. Majority of the time without any cargo, and traveling on interstates. No flapping, flopping, or flying pieces. It's been great. Been super happy with this product.

Apparently they've changed quite a bit since the one I last bought in 2005.

I was skeptical about a bedliner in a box, with side panels fastened together with zippers. I may add the fifth wheel puck system in the near future, and didn't want to spray over the dimples to drill the bed out. This seemed like an adequate solution, and now it's exceeded my expectations.
And, as stated, it's nice on the knees if you have to get in there. It's cushy. LOL

I'm constantly crawling in and out of the back of the truck, and I totally agree. I also use my tailgate a lot when we're camping in stuff as a work bench. I've rebuilt many motorcycle carbs an RC cars on it! The material is nice as small parts don't roll around. And like I mentioned, I've been doing this for with the Bed Rug in one of my trucks for over 15 years, and it's held up surprisingly well.
I've got a full Bedrug in my 2017 350, so 3+ years with it. I do have stuff in my bed and usually drive with the tonneau rolled over it, but when I tow the fifth wheel I've never had any issues with flapping. I did use the velcro. It's pretty tight feeling. I've towed probably 18k miles total, so no issues.
