I realize it's a very variable question, so just looking for a sense to give me a reference point. What do you folks that have bought a new truck in the last few years find you are getting knocked off your sticker price? 10%? I've got little experience nor temperament, for that matter, for hours of back and forth. I'd just like to figure out an average percentage off people are buying at so I know where to start and when to be happy and hand over my left.....arm.....
*Mod's: I know this isn't exactly on TC topic and I did post in the "Buying" thread. But there are a number of folks that frequent this section that I'd like to hear from. Thanks!

Like you, I do not have the temperament to go through all the BS. I simply tell the sales person to tell me the lowest dollar amount I need to write the check for. No added fees, taxes, dealer charges.......just the bottom line. At that point I either stay or walk.

You sir are 100% correct. Bought my current truck this way. Did the research and found what others were paying and what the bottom line cost I should pay as if I was going to hand them a stack of cash. Ended up paying a little over $64k while others were spending nearly 5k more. I abhor how a dealership attempts to sell you a payment.

Yup. When I bought my current truck I had walked out, the salesman actually called me back the next day and shot me an acceptable figure over the phone. I made out the check here at home, went there and handed it to him. Signed the paperwork and drove the new truck home.
"There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase closely associated with P. T. Barnum, an American showman of the mid-19th century, although there is no evidence that he actually said it. Early examples of its use are found among gamblers and confidence tricksters.

Seller's are really not interested in your business.... They prefer the suckers.... A really basic concept. The suckers are easily BS's by the service manager and the rest of the looters.
I went through the Internet Sales Manager for my truck. I told him I was going to use X-Plan and he said he could do better, and he did. I didn't get the low documentation fee that X-Plan requires, but I did get a truck price less than X-Plan would have given me.
Thanks for the replies so far. Still hoping for a percentage type number as a ballpark. Dollar amounts are only helpful if I know what the sticker was. Getting $4k off is very different between a $30k purchase and a $100k purchase.
I did the online request a quote via my local dealer. I specifically asked for an email, not a phone call. A ph# number was required to complete the online form, so I put in my home #. Just minutes ago, I got a phone call.....on my f'ing cell phone! So, that has now set me off. It might be a couple hours, might be a couple days, before I recover. I can barely type and am now going to have to take some meds and likely lose the day of work.
No idea how they got my cell number.
Thanks Ford, if your listening or care. Nice start.

I work in the field of data centers and the 'Cloud.' It's called data analytics. Every piece of information is used and shared among databases companies pay to access in a nutshell. The only way around that nowadays is to dump every electronic device and go back to pre-computing days. Quite frightening to be honest but it pays very well.

Reason: spelling
Got well over 10% off my last 2 trucks. 9500 off a 2017 Ram that stickered for 70,000 and 9000 off a 2108 F-350 that stickered for 80,000. Inventory in heavy duty trucks is low around here right now though. Might not do that well now but the profit margins are there. Also.....NEVER TELL THEM YOUR PAYING CASH!!!! They make a nice fee off of the loan they sell you. Wait until the very end when they throw the finance papers at you to tell them your paying cash. Also, watch the fees. Many dealers will give you an initial low price knowing they’re gonna make it back up on fake fees. Taxes, title and tags are the only fees you have to pay. All the other fees are extra profit!!!! Including the DOC fee!!!! If they say they have to charge you the fees then add the fees up and take em off the quoted price before all the added fees. Then walk!
Thanks for the replies guys.
I took some advise and emailed 5 dealers. Asked for the out the door/ all in price as that ultimately is the only number that matters. Took the best to the local to match and came out about $7k off so quite happy.
Just wish they didn't take so long to build!
I’d say 7000 off is pretty good. Awesome!!! I’m excited for you bro!
Thanks. I was quite happy and it was much better for me doing it via email. And my sales guy was good too. No bull**** or mucking around. Walked in, papers ready, baddabing baddaboom. Done and out in 15 mins.
