So picked go this little gem(pos?) late last summer as a winter/backup/hauling vehicle to my Mustang. Paid 700 for it. Ran mediocre, had check engine codes, etc. Dropped 100 into it maf, fpr, and a couple other odds and ends. Huge improvement(fuel economy still better in my built 01 Mustang GT though even when driving 120mph over distance).
A problem started out of the blue. Cranking longer and longer to get it to start. Almost always in the mornings. And sometimes other times mid day. Once in awhile after sitting overnight it fires right up.
It regularly sits for a week at a time, as I drove truck. About a month ago I changes the fuel filter. Improvement in driveability(still gutless, hell my 85 Chevy Celebrity would whup this things ***). I hooked up my harbor feisght fuel pressure tester this morning, and nothing. Fired it up, 30psi. Shut it off 0.
Anything helps.
Not sure if this thing is even worth keeping and putting $$ into. 1 small dent, 1 tiny dent. Door panels have seen better days. Window motors shot. Everything else is great.
The fuel pressure should not go to zero when you shut it off, at least not right away.It should hold pressure for a while. You probably have a leak some where, could be a bad fuel injector/injectors. Check out my video, I do a check on my fuel pressure on my 97 explorer. My fuel pressure actually goes up a little after I shut it off. Skip to about 4:30 on the video
What should the fuel pressure be? It was leaking a but at the gauge so that could be it, but she. I hooked it up it was definitely 0. No leak no nothing.
This is out of my Haynes manual, Vaccum hose attached 30-45 psi
Vaccum hose detached 40-50 psi
After you shut off your engine the fuel pressure shoild hold to ay least 30psi fo 5 min.
If you have any leaks in the guage or where the hose is attached wil not give you a correct reading.
Could be a lot of things.
If you haven't already, I guess I would start with the spark plugs, pull them all out and see how they look. The spark plugs can tell you a lot about what's going on with your engine.
