Door Ajar
2001 f250 superduty about two weeks ago my interior lights would not go off then i notice it says door ajar I get out slam all four doors no luck about 15 minutes later they go off still says door ajar. now tonight it does the same thing. i have read some of the other post I believe contain the same problem I am having. would i be correct to assume it is most likely the switch and if so did i read the swith is inside the door itself.

First, welcome to FTE!!
Common problem with Ford trucks. The switch is next to the
latch mechanism in the door, just spray the latch mechanism
good with WD40, open & close the door a few times, and this
should free up the switches...

Excellent advice Bob. I had my Ford dealer replace these switches twice, which they were more than happy to do for about $100 per fix.
I have had this happen on a 99 Ford and my current 2001 Ford. A few weeks ago when I stumbled on to this site, I found this advice of spraying them in another thread! I did it and immediately got rid of the dome lights being on while your trying to drive in the dark due to the door ajar switches.
This advice not only saved me $200 + , but it saved all the agrivation of taking the thing in the get the problem solved. Makes me wonder if my switches ever really got replaced the times when I took it in before???

It worked for me!
Well I sprayed contact cleaner and then WD 40 and that has been a few weeks ago and have not had a problem since. I really appreciate the advice and comments recieved from other members.

Hello,
I just found this site after having the same problem with my
'98 Ranger.
I had been having the problem off and on over the last few months. I sprayed both latches good with WD40 and viola'
problem solved. (I was pretty sure the passenger side door was the problem.)
